Reba McEntire shared a sweet anniversary tribute to her boyfriend, actor Rex Linn, as the couple celebrated five years of dating.
McEntire posted two photos of herself and Linn on Instagram on Thursday evening (January 23). One photo was taken recently, and the other appears to be from the beginning of their relationship. The beloved country artist wrote in her caption: “Celebrating five years of tater tots this week! ❤️”
McEntire has previously shared the story of how she and Linn began dating. They first met on the set of Kenny Rogers’ The Gambler Returns: The Luck of the Draw in 1991. They worked with one another again on Young Sheldon in early 2020, before the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Linn made dinner plans with McEntire, who said on the Jennifer Hudson Show that they then “went down the street to a wine bar and they said, ‘well, I understand you’ve already had dinner, but we do have some good appetizers…we have tater tots.’”
Linn decided McEntire’s nickname would be “tater tot,” in response to her immediate enthusiasm. McEntire countered that the actor’s nickname would be “sugar tot. We’re the tots… Sugar and tater. So, we’ve been together ever since.”
Naturally, some have wondered whether the tots would ever tie the knot. McEntire said during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen in 2023 that whether they got married “would be up to him. I’ve been married twice. He’s never been married. So, if he wants to [get married], that’s totally up to him.”
