Carrie Underwood stepped up to the mic to perform an a cappella rendition of “America the Beautiful” — powering through unexpected technical difficulties that caused a brief delay — on President Donald Trump’s Inauguration Day on Monday (January 20).
She likely did it for free.
It’s reportedly typical for artists performing at the Inauguration ceremony to do so without receiving a paycheck for the gig; however, other expenses — including lodging and travel — may be covered via the inaugural committee and/or donations. The latest info from Celebrity Net Worth shows Underwood has a net worth of $120 million.
Underwood’s performance on Trump’s Inauguration Day surprised many, after the country star spent years avoiding getting into politics. The former American Idol champ and first-time judge in the upcoming season previously said she aimed to “stay far out of politics,” in a 2019 interview with The Guardian: “I feel like more people try to pin me places politically. I try to stay far out of politics if possible, at least in public, because nobody wins. It’s crazy. Everybody tries to sum everything up and put a bow on it, like it’s black and white. And it’s not like that.”
Other performers who took part in Inauguration events included Jason Aldean, Billy Ray Cyrus and more. Underwood said in a statement of her decision to participate: “I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the Inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event. I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future.”
