Brian Kelley paid tribute to Toby Keith with a cover of “Courtesy Of The Red, White And Blue (The Angry American).” Kelley posted a brief clip of his cover on Instagram on Friday morning (July 5). He wrote in his caption with several American flags: “God bless America. God bless our troops.” Kelley added the hashtag, “we miss you, Toby.”
Keith released “Courtesy Of The Red, White And Blue (The Angry American)” on his 2002 album, Unleashed. The 13-track album also included “Good to Go to Mexico,” “Beer for My Horses,” “Who’s Your Daddy?,” and other highlights that remained some of the biggest hits throughout the Oklahoma-born country star’s decades-long career.
Keith “passed peacefully last night on Feb. 5 surrounded by his family,” per a statement posted to his social media pages in the early morning hours of February 6. The statement noted that Keith fought his years-long battle with stomach cancer “with grace and courage.” He was 62. He’s survived by wife Tricia Lucus and children Shelly Covel Rowland, Krystal Keith and Stelen Keith Covel.
Kelley is one of many country artists to pay tribute to the late legend, including via social media posts and performances in his honor. Late this month, country stars will join together to honor Keith during a special show, Toby Keith: American Icon, hosted at Bridgestone Arena in Downtown Nashville, Tennessee. The show will support The Toby Keith Foundation’s OK Kids Korral. The lineup includes Luke Bryan, Eric Church, Ashley McBryde, Parker McCollum, Jelly Roll, Darius Rucker, Carrie Underwood, Lainey Wilson, The War And Treaty and others, per a previous announcement. Toby Keith: American Icon is set to take place in Nashville on Monday, July 29. It will air on NBC on Wednesday, August 28 from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. ET.
