A detention officer is now behind bars for having a relationship with an inmate.

Tammy Shannon, who resigned from her position as Food Service Manager at the Brazos County Detention Center on November 11, was arrested Wednesday (November 16) for violations of the civil rights of person in custody, according to FOX 44.

The Brazos County Sheriff's Office received a tip that an inmate was making calls to Shannon from an unauthorized phone. After a preliminary investigation by a supervisor, it was found that a policy violation might have occurred and a formal investigation followed. The criminal investigation revealed Shannon was involved in an "inappropriate relationship with a person in custody," the news outlet reported.

A warrant for Shannon's arrest was issued Tuesday. She surrendered to the Hearne Police Department. No bond has been set.

Shannon was employed by the Sheriff's Office since April 2008.

The inmate has been offered victim services, which is standard operating procedure to "protect the names of victims involved in sex crimes." The Brazos County Sheriff's Office has a zero tolerance policy for sexual abuse and sexual harrassment.
