Two young men are in jail after they allegedly started taking pot shots at a police car.

1200 WOAI news reports it happened on the city's west side at Old Highway 90 and Jerome.

Officers were called for a report of shots fired. When a police officer attempted to stop a vehicle in the scene, a suspect inside the vehicle opened fire on the police car.

One of the slugs smashed through the front windshield of the police car, striking the officer's lap top computer, and sending broken glass flying into the officer's face.

Two men who jumped out of the car were quickly arrested as they tried to run away.

Rene Alfaro, 25, and Oscar Padilla, 25, are each charged with attempted capital murder of a police officer and held on a half million dollars bond apiece.

  The officer is hospitalized.
