The Metro San Antonio unemployment rate fell to a post recession low of an even 6% in August, spurred by back to school hiring and continued growth in manufacturing, and oilfield related jobs, 1200 WOAI news reports.

San Antonio continues to outshine the Texas unemployment rate of 6.4%, and the national jobless rate for August of 7.4%.

Nearly 7,000 fewer people are unemployed in the eight county metro today as were jobless in August of 2012, according to figures released by the Texas Workforce Commission.

In addition to oilfield related job growth, manufacturing continues to boom across Texas, driven be plentiful supplies of inexpensive natural gas.

Back to School in late August also sparked hiring in Education and Health Services, while the end of the summer travel season led to job cuts in leisure and hospitality.

The TWC counted 968,900 people working full time in the metro in August, compared with 959,000 on year ago.
