Jazz Up Your Friday at the Balcones Heights Jazz Festival 2017

‘All That Jazz’ and then some is happening at the Balcones Heights Jazz Festival and YOU need to be there for the next two Fridays!

The annual celebration of culture, music, diversity and life presents the opportunity for us to marvel at the collection of performances and appreciate the outdoor amphitheater; food/beverage vendors and family friendly entertainment.

Literally last week I tried one of the vendors’ pork chop dishes and it was actually the most appetizing recipe I’ve ever tried-it was sweet. It was savory. A little tangy & all around delicious- Seriously delightful, I think I’ll go back to Jazz fest just to go get another one!

Regardless if Jazz is or isn’t your thing, there’s plenty of memories to be made for all ages that will make for a boogie-woogie night out to kick off your weekend.

(Live music and BBQ and good hangs oh my!)

This FREE event features the finest in local jazz and national and international jazz artists; including, Los Angeles-based trumpeter Rick Braun; UK’s Smooth Jazz keyboardist Oli Silk; Grammy nominated guitarist Paul Jackson, Jr.; D.C. saxophonist Phillip “Doc” Martin; world jazz duo guitarists Strunz & Farah; national recording artist and saxophonist Chase Huna; and adult contemporary guitarist Steve Oliver.

Your host for the night, David Munoz emcee of the “Sunday Morning Jazz” segment on Q101.9, caters to the audience by providing a welcoming introduction to the bands and entertains the crowd with conversation, presentation and celebration of all things jazz.

For over two decades, Balcones Heights has been the home of the Jazz Festival and contributed to the vibes that bring over 4,000 fans each Friday! I arrived last week a little past 7:30 and the entire venue was packed tight with lawn chairs and blankets spread out from top to bottom; so be sure to get there with plenty of time to spare to find your desired spot for the night.

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO PRO TIP: ‘Die-hard fans have been known to stake out their claim, with lawn chairs and blankets in tow, days in advance of the event at favorite spots along the edge of the sparking reflecting pool and fountains of the city’s main hub Wonderland of the Americas.’

Can’t attend the Jazz Festival this year? Have no fear- A live stream of the opening acts will be available for download.

See below for the remaining performances, there are only TWO MORE FRIDAYS LEFT so make moves people!
