Yeah, I said the same thing when I saw that headline for the first time. Then I continued to read on. Apparently, this study followed roughly 35,000 people with their very bizarre eating habits. They virtually never, ever ate at home. Their diets consisted of food items from a restaurant. Yup, they mainly ate out all the time and the results were shocking.
This group of 35,000 would eat out two times per day. That's almost every meal coming from a restaurant. First off, I would love to know what they actually did for a living to be able to afford that. Don't get me wrong, there was a time in my younger years where I would go out for lunch and then maybe out to dinner. That was MAYBE once or twice a month. Most of the time, if I were to eat out for lunch then dinner was at home.
Here's what they found, and it's something we've known for a very long time. Most restaurant food is full of salt and butter. So imagine consuming that two times a day, seven days a week. This isn't the healthiest thing you could be doing for your body.
They were finding that this group had a 49% chance of premature death. They were also 65% more likely to die of cancer.
Now this study did not have a recommended amount of restaurant food or a "safe list" if you will. They recommended to go less or choose healthier options.
