The city of San Antonio is opening cooling centers around town for residents who need to be sheltered from the heat. City officials made the announcement after the Electric Reliability Council of Texas urged people statewide to conserve power this week to avoid the possibility of rolling blackouts. VIA is offering free rides to the cooling centers starting today. Masks are still required on the bus. Service animals are allowed at the cooling centers, but not pets.
