Southside ISD Reports Shortage Of Substitute Teachers During Pandemic

Southside ISD is reporting a shortage of substitute teachers, mainly because of the pandemic. Last year, the district had 120 substitutes. This time around, there are only 35. Sharon Fuery, the district's executive director of HR, says substitute teachers aren't returning this year for several reasons, but the main one is the coronavirus. About half of Southside ISD's students are learning in person, with teachers in the classroom.
