Texas Historical Commission Blocks Plan To Move Alamo Cenotaph

The Cenotaph will stay put at its present location in front of the Alamo. The Texas Historical Commission voted to deny the City of San Antonio a permit to move the monument out of the Alamo courtyard to a new location several hundred feet to the south. The proposed move was part of the 400-million-dollar Alamo Master Plan, which calls for repairs to the Alamo and the Long Barracks, and the addition a visitor center and museum. Moving the 1936 Cenotaph proved to be an unpopular proposal.
