The quiet, upper middle class Houston suburb of Spring was rocked Wednesday night by an act of unspeakable carnage, Newsradio 1200 WOAI reports.
Harris County Sheriff's Deputy Thomas Gilliland says the estranged father and husband of the family who lives in a home burst in and opened fire, killing four children and two adults. Gilliland says the children were two boys 4 and 14, two girls 7 and 9, and a 39 year old man and a 33 year old woman.
"The suspect who has been taken into custody, the defendant, and his estranged wife are separated," Gilliland told Newsradio 1200 WOAI. "These children are all their children, biologically and adopted."
Gilliland says after the shooting, the suspected retreated into a nearby car where he held police at bay for nearly three hours, with the gun pointed at his own head.
"Two hours of constant talking with him," he said. "When he got here we had a male with a pistol pointed to his head, who had just killed six people."
Finally the suspect surrendered, and he will face capital murder charges.
Deputies say the man's estranged wife was not in the house at the time. The only survivor was the man's 15 year old daughter, who is listed in critical condition.
