The San Antonio Metro job market showed unprecedented growth in 2013, adding an amazing 20,200 jobs last year, according to figures released by Workforce Solutions Alamo.

"It's a hopeful start to 2014 for the region," spokeswoman Eva Esquivel said.  "Job growth occurred in almost every industry over the past year and continues to provide various opportunities to the growing labor force."

Job growth was uniform among many sectors, with oil and gas, leisure and hospitality, Information Technology, trade, construction, and business services all showing strong job growth.

The eight county metro area reported a 5.4% jobless rate in January, well below the national and even the statewide unemployment rates.

The region reported job growth of 2.3% in 2013, about twice the national average.
