Bowe Bergdahl is eating peanut butter and settling into his hospital room at San Antonio Military Medical Center following his five years of captivity at the hands of the Taliban, Army officials told 1200 WOAI news today.
Bergdahl, 28, was released by the Taliban in exchange for five top level fighters May 31. He arrived in San Antonio early this morning.
"He was in uniform, we exchanged salutes," said Maj. Gen Joseph DiSalvo when asked about Bergdahl’s appearance when he arrived at the hospital. He said Bergdahl was ambulatory and appeared to be in 'excellent deportment.'
Doctors also said Bergdahl's parents are not in San Antonio, meaning a reunion will not take place soon. The officials declined to say when that reunion might happen.
