Local Job Growth Continued Strong in June

The metro area continues to be a job magnet, with 4400 new jobs created in the eight county San Antonio area in June, Newsradio 1200 WOAI reports.

Annual job growth rate, which is the number of jobs created in the metro in the last year, stands at 22,500.

The region's unemployment rate jumped to 5.1% in May, largely due to the fact that when school ended, people moved to the area to look for work.  The total size of the work force, at 1,065,000, is the largest in history, up 6,000 people from this time last year.

Workforce Solutions Alamo says leisure and hospitality was the biggest job gainer in the month, followed by business services.  Other gainers include construction, financial activities, and manufacturing.  The biggest job loser was government, but that is largely due to school layoffs due to summer vacation.
