Former Greater San Antonio chamber of Commerce President Joe Krier, who was appointed last fall to the north side Council seat vacated by Elisa Chan in her unsuccessful run for State Senate, was elected to that seat Saturday in an election marked by low turnout.

Krier received just under 56% of the vote in District Nine against five challengers, winning the seat without a runoff.

Krier will remain on council until next spring's municipal elections.

Krier able to quickly brush aside under funded campaigns of perennial candidates, including one with Tea party backing.
