Police say the death of a 23 year old man in a southwest side car wreck early Sunday may have been the result of a road rage incident, Newsradio 1200 WOAI reports.

Detectives are still trying to sort it all out, but they say that about 2:30 this morning, one motorist may have tried to drive another off of Loop 410 near Palo Alto College.

The motorist who was driven off the road pulled a gun, apparently in an attempt to scare the guy who had just driven him off the road.

But the gun went off.. Detectives say the man by have actually shot himself in the head.. Or, the recoil from the gunshot may have forced the man to lose control of his car.

He slammed into a concrete retaining wall.

The driver died at the hospital.  The passenger was not seriously hurt and is trying to help police fill in the blanks.

So far, there is no word on any charges.. Police aren't sure whether the other motorist actually tried to run the victim off the road, or whether the other driver even knew of the incident.
