Drought Worsens--Stage Three Restrictions Declared by EAA
Posted April 10th, 2014 @ 2:56pm by Jim Forsyth

As the drought grows worse, the Edwards Aquifer Authority today imposed Stage Three water restrictions on pumpers across the region, 1200 WOAI news reports.

The ruling will not affect homeowners, but it will make it more difficult for people who get water from backyard wells, farmers, and large pumpers like SAWS to withdraw water out of the Aquifer.

Stage Three was declared as the Aquifer level fell below 640 feet.  State Three will remain in place until the Aquifer level rises above that threshold.  Stage Three restrictions were last in place in early January of this year.

SAWS remains in Stage Two restrictions, and the utility says it hopes to be able to remain at that level by utilizing the Aquifer Storage and Recovery 'water bank' which stores more than two billion gallons of water in underground caves southeast of San Antonio.
