Two women who had just left a northwest side nightclub were killed this morning when the SUV they were in slammed into a tree, 1200 WOAI news reports.

Police say four women who were driving east on Medical Drive 'at a high rate of speed' lost control of the vehicle as it rounded a curve.

The SUV jumped the curb and slammed into several trees.

Police say two of the women were trapped in the mangled vehicle and were pronounced dead at the scene.  The other women were removed from the vehicle and were rushed to nearby University Hospital, where both were listed in critical condition.

A relative who was in a car following the SUV saw the accident and helped get the two survivors out of the vehicle.

Police say speed was a factor.  Even though the women, all in their twenties, had just left a bar, it was unclear whether alcohol played a role in the accident.
