A standoff ended peacefully this morning as a man who allegedly shot his wife surrendered to sheriff's deputies, 1200 WOAI news reports.
Bexar County Sheriff's spokesman Paul Berry says it all began about 6, with a violent confrontation between a husband and wife in the 6000 block of Bear Canyon, which is located near 90 and 1604 on the city's west side.
He says the man started brutally beating his wife.
"As she was getting up, he went to retrieve a handgun, and she went to grab her three young children to leave the house," he said. "As she was leaving the house, the suspect fired one shot, hitting her in the chin and the shoulder."
The woman got to a waiting ambulance, and neighbors got the three children, who were with her, to safety.
But the man ran back inside the house.
Berry says SWAT units were called, and after about an hour, the man surrendered.
He is expected to face aggravated assault charges. The woman is being treated for non life threatening wounds.
